I'll miss my Italian family! Hope to see you again soon.
My last day in Sicily is a good one! We arrive at Zia Ester's house in Siracusa and only stay long enough to drop off Marta so she can help cook. Nuccio and I walk the perimeter of Isla di Ortegia, which is a beautiful part of downtown Siracusa, another UNESCO site. It is surrounded by the Ionian Sea's clear, turquoise waters. We see fountains, churches and eat ice cream (Don't tell! We still ate all our lunch). Chiesa di Santa Lucia al Sepolcro has the first Caravaggio painting I've seen outside of a museum, and it's beautiful. Unfortunately, no photos allowed. We visit the Duomo which is built on top of the ancient Temple of Minerva. Finally we see Apollo's Temple, built in 600 BC, which seems oddly out of place in the city center.
