The departure section of Cancun airport is very wealthy and you wouldn't know you were in Cancun. All the duty free shopping and restaurants looks like any other airport we've been too. The only Mexican give away was the Mariachi Band playing!
Check in took almost an hour followed by security which took another 10 minutes or so. This left us just enough time to grab some lunch before boarding our flight to Houston. Don was in the row behind me and I was next to a couple from Arkansas. I had a nice chat to my new friends and even got some assistance with my crossword puzzle.
Once we arrived in Houston we had to go through customs, collect our luggage, drop our luggage off again, go back through security and then find our next gate. This whole process took more than an hour and only left us with 15 minutes to spare. However, our next flight boarded 30 minutes late so we would have had a bit more time up our sleeve, but I certainly wouldn't have liked to cut it much finer than we did.
Again we were separated and on different sides of the plane both stuck between strangers. Both with kids kicking the back of the seat, and only snack food available for purchase which we didn't bother with.
The view coming into San Francisco was great and it's a shame neither of us could reach the window to get a photo.
Once we landed we quickly collected our luggage and headed to the shuttle which came fairly quickly and we were at our hotel by 11pm local time which is 1 am Cancun time. The hotel room is very small and only has a double bed. It is easilly the smallest room we've had this whole trip and Don's feet go over the end of the bed.
We both did some updates to the blog since we are a few days behind - hopefully we'll stay more up to date over the next few days.
