On Sunday I finally left Finca Tatin with Eli, Gregor and Bree, where we all split up in Livingston. I had about a 6 hour trip to Finca Ixobal, another little farm about half way to Tikal. It turned out to be the worst journey so far. It was hot, crowded, I had to wait hours for the bus and worst of all I had the worst hang over of Central America so far. But I finally arrived at Finca Ixobal just in time for the best meal I've had in CA. Stewed beef, heaps of vegetables and fresh bread. That and 12 hours sleep cured the hangover.

The next day I headed to Flores, the launching pad for tours to the lost Mayan city of Tikal. This morning I visited Tikal, and it was truly spectacular. The Tikal ruins are 2,000 years old and once was home to more than 100,000 Mayans. It is a sprawling set of temples, plazas and houses set in dense jungle (the mosquitos rate as the most vicious ever). The temples are the highest of the Mayan ruins, and the best part of all is you can climb some of them and get a view of the ruins and the jungle. Other than the mosquitos the 35 degree heat and 95% humidity made for a leisurely stroll for most of the day through the ruins. The Mayan Kings also had great names like ¨King Great Jaguar Paw¨ and ¨King Moon Double Comb¨.

Finally tonight is my last night in Guatemala as tomorrow I realise a long time dream and head to the Caribbean Island of Caye Caulker in Belize.........
