After a couple days at Lanquin / Semuc Chempey a group of us left on the early bus, but all parted ways in Coban (not Copan) . I headed off to Copan ruins, but hopefully will meet up with Ollie and or Sandy (Israeli girl) somewhere along the road.
In Copan I realised that travelling a relatively small place like Central America is you really become part of a small community. You have your people travelling South, your people travelling North, somewhere in the middle they collide, and then you are left with the same bunch of people heading in your direction. Even though I am not travelling with anyone, I keep bumping into people I've met before. I realised this when I was walking from the town of Copan to the ruins, when I just ducked my head into a cafe to find out a soccer score, and bumped into 2 French girls from El Retiro. Now I spoke to them quite alot on the first night, but the rum made me forget that they were also heading to Honduras.
So that afternoon the 3 of us went to the Copan ruins, a set of Mayan temples, carvings, playing fields and statues. Now I would be lying if I said I was awe-inspired, but it was quite impressive none-the less. It was made interesting by Iris & Anerlise who turned out to be alot of fun, despite being French (another misconception!!).
The next morning we parted ways again and I headed back into Guatemala to go down the Rio Dulce and onto the Caribbean (Belize, Honduras or Tikal beckon)....
