Cost Rica rocks! Now that I´ve left San Jose behind, I travelled north to La Foruna to see the worlds second most active volcano - Arenal. The bus trip was pretty uneventful, except for helping some travellers when their bags were being stolen. I arrived at La Fortuna knowing a couple new people from the bus and we headed to Gringo Petes.
One of the girls that works at Petes took us out for a night at the local disco - quite an experience. I´m not the biggest fan of Latina rock, but it was a great night none the less.
The next day was one of those days that I´ll remember forever and reminded me (after the San Jose experience) why I love travelling. About 10 of us headed to a water hole where theres a swing rope and water fall and I spent most of the day pretending that I was 20 years younger, running around and swimming. Everyone was really nice so it was a great day. I´d like to say at this stage that one thing I wasnt looking forward to was the Americans I knew I would encounter, but of the 10 people about 6 were American and they were really great. I apologise to the Americans and hope the rest of the people I meet are half as nice.
That evening the same group of people went on the Volcano & Hotbath tour. It started off with a leisurely hike through the rain forest where we saw toucans, a viper and some spider monkeys. Then it was to the volcano (it was clouded over so didnt see any lava) and then onto the hot springs, which were great. Me and 3 of the American snuck a bottle of Costa Ricas finest rum into the baths and because we were a big group, just had a great relaxing time. It was a day I never wanted to end.
But it did. So today I´ve just been relaxing, back at the water hole and eating lots of great Costa Rican fresh fruit.
I was only going to stay in La Fortuna 1 night, but now 3 days later I´m heading up to Nicaragua to do some Spaish school so I no longer get called ¨tinto¨by the locals.......
