Yes I finally got to say those immortal words standing facing the mighty Victoria Falls or as the Zambian's actually call it Mosi Oa Tunya (the smoke that thunders).
The falls are magnificent although the view from the Zambian side is the sideways on view, but we made up for this by today taking a boat to the very top of the falls to a place called Livingstone Island. Here you are literally looking down from the top of the falls and stand amidst the smoke and thunder, and it's one of the most amazing things I've ever done, some brave souls even went to swim right on the edge of the falls, Jonna and I passed on that photo opportunity.
Tomorrow we head off to Botswana for a 2 day elephant safari to Chobe park in Botswana, can't wait to go on my first ever safari.
Dom
It's difficult to describe how beautiful the falls are but it's nearly
impossible to describe how amazing the Livingstone Island is. I've
never seen anything like that in my whole life! You literally get to
stand really close to the edge of the falls and can see the whole thing
from only a few meters away which is a bit too close to my liking to be
honest - I stood there for 30 seconds and decided that was enough . The
brave soul (it was only one) who went swimming on the edge of the falls
was an old American woman who liked all sorts of adrenaline
activities... Dom and I felt like two chickens compared to this
pensioner!
Overall, Livingstone is definitely worth a visit the Victoria Falls obviously being the main attraction but there are also other things to do. We visited the excellent Livingstone Museum, where we learned a thing or two about the history of Zambia and Dr Livingstone. The only thing that hasn't really impressed me so far in Zambia is the food that is average at its best.
