back once again in athens airport waiting to board my flight to frankfurt.
in turkey i didn't blend in so much. i was usually spanish although sometimes italian, apparently. this was probably b/c i insisted on wearing shorts everyday... or possibly due to my lack of moustache.
in israel i was israeli until i opened my mouth, and even then sometimes until i exhausted my 3-word vocabulary.
always in athens i was a tourist, most likely b/c i was always in touristy places and usually with a group of english speakers.
rhodes, however, was the icing on the cake, where i was yelled at twice for not knowing greek! apparently i look greek. fine. they accept that, and that i'm canadian. but once questioned why i was visiting, with my answer being to see where my great-grandfather was from, the reply has been the same: "then why you don't know greek?! no one taught you greek?" this is also according to them, my mother's fault. i feel as though i may have just wandered into a deleted scene from my big fat greek wedding.
