picture one of those cheesy stereotypical postcards that you always see about santorini. insert me stealing some free WiFi, and you can envision exactly where i am.
the weather man has been totally wrong, and it's a good thing! although it's too cold for shorts and sandals, the sun has been out and the clouds have stayed away. yesterday I walked the 15km round trip to kamari to see the eastern coast and beaches. i climbed a little mountain to check out a church, only to realize there was a footpath on the otherside. the highlight of the walk was being yelled at in greek by some goat herder when i attempted some photos of his livestock. meh.
that afternoon i trekked to fira and found the beauty of santorini that i, until then, didn't believe existed (also b/c i needed to turn left rather than staying straight in the main road). at sunset time i was found by the australian version of the castaldos, and their 2 daughters; a family i met on my flight to the island. they invited to their place for a drink, which turned into a *few* more.
today was a trek north with the hopes of walking to oia, passing through the villages of firostefani and imerovigli, until I found skaros, a massive rock that houses ruins of an ancient castle. i spent a good bit of time there catching my breath, and wandering when i discovered this perfect blue-domed church at the western base, right on the sea. seeing as if i would make it to oia, i'd be hard-pressed to find a way back in the daylight, i'm heading back to fira and plan to take it easy for the rest of the day. rhodes tomorrow night!
