'twas the day before christmas, and silent in oia (pronounced "ee-ah"), nothing was stirring, not even me-a.

the remaining days in athens were enjoyed solely due to the people in my hostel. we caught an entertaining footie match between olympiacos and thrasivoulous (won 2-1 by olympiacos thanks to an extratime penalty goal by luciano galetti). I saw an mc escher exhibit that was really cool, saw one athenian sunrise from our hostel rooftop, had some great nights out where i got to smoke a cuban and chatup some locals. thankfully i've been able to so far avoid getting sick, lost or damaged luggage, bed bugs, or waking up in a greek hospital with no recollection of how you got there, your wallet missing, and the name of some greek guy written on a paper found in your jacket pocket.

our hostel had a kitchen (finally!), so i got to go food shopping here for CHEAP and fresh good produce, including kalamatas (dirt cheap) and peperoncini peppers (dirt cheaper). throw in the E1.90 gyros and you've got a winning combination to get me to return. plus the parthenon is in year 25 of restoration and scaffolding, so it'd be nice to see it sometime again.

i'm in the athens airport now waiting to board my flight to santorini. the place is quite busy, but nothing like a major airport on christmas eve. merry christmas to all, happy hannukah, and those in canada: enjoy the snow!
