i think there's something cool and spiritual about saying "i did a day trip to jerusalem", and lo and behold, today i did a day trip to j'lem. spent the morning learning some info about working here if the canada route doesn't come through, but that meant i missed my chance to go onto the temple mount. oh well. lunch time was spent underground in the on-going excavations of the kotel tunnel tours. that included a view of the western wall of the temple mount as it stretched 320 metres towards the original bedrock of mount moriah, and got to step on the orignal/same walkway to the temple as my ancient ancient ancient ancestors would have. i also got to touch and say a little prayer at the part of the kotel that is nearest to the kodesh kodeshim (holy of the holies - the foundation stone), so that was kinda cool. and my tourguide, who made aliyah 7 years ago from maine knows a girl at UCD i met during the post-yom kippur pub night. small world. then hung out in the new marmila pedestrian mall at cafecafe, and drank yet more coffee. i'm getting a taste for it... uh oh. met up with re'ut, one of the israelis from my taglit trip, and got to catch up. as for j'lem, the city is in a mess due to their attempts to install a tramway system. so jaffa street is just a huge crater, and traffic is worse than normal (which is usually bad enough). fun.
yesterday was a day at the hof, or beach. lounged on the chairs until the guy came to charge the 6 shekels for sitting on a chair. then went for a walk until it was sunset time, and the snapped away at a pretty sunset, with a fire in jaffa in the background. during the night i saw maccabi haifa defeat a terrible bnei yehuda team at bloomfield stadium. they had their chances, but just couldn't finish their plays.
sunday was a shopping day - i got me a nice wooly hoody from TNT (apparently an israeli company that makes cool clothes), but only after i got a cool sweater from fox (another israeli clothes company). it's winter time now, but everything is on sale, so those are magical words when you wouldn't otherwise normally buy things. works for me though.
tonight is the final episode of israel's first season of big brother. the country is at a standstill as everyone is indoors to watch this crapfest. thankfully i won't understand 97% of what's being said. tomorrow i get to meet up with tomer, another israeli from taglit, and if the sun cooperates, me thinks i'll go back to the hof, just b/c i can.
