after a surprisingly not so bad 10 hour bus ride from istanbul, which included a ferry and numerous stops and wake-ups, i arrived in selçuk this morning bright and early at 7:30. found the hostel right away thanks to the eager accommodation helpers at the otogar (bus station) and cleaned up, met some fellow guests from Oz, and we set out to conquer efesus (or efes).
i thought this was turkey´s version of petra. nope! it was (sadly) like any other greek or roman ruin city. don´t get me wrong, it was cool and fun, and wearing a t-shirt and shorts and sandals in december is great. i even managed a tan. but i guess i hyped it up too much.
however.
along the way i met up with a guy i shared the bus ride with from istanbul, who was with more aussies from his hostel. we all met up for dinner, dining on pide (turkish pizza) and had some cans in the street near a mosque. let´s just say it weird on paper, although surprisingly lax in practice.
selçuk is a small town of 27,000 people and it´s pretty quiet with no tourists. i´m looking forward to some nice peaceful relaxing days here before returning to istanbul.
