the alternate title is 'turkısh delıght'.
so. first day day out ın sultanahmet. dıd half of it. lots of people. amazıng smells (in the good way, although lots of ones in the bad way too). but what can i say about the bazaars? you have to see it - shops selling mannequiıns, automatic rifles (separate shops in case you were worried), a mini-photocopier on wheels, and stall after stall of the same junk. the turks are so friendly too! everyone wanted to be my friend in the bazaars, but once i was outside, the friendliness left too. hmm. maybe it was b/c i didn't want to buy that 'rolex' or 'bulgari' for $20, even though i talked him down to 20YTL just for the fun of it. i guess i'm a jerk!
i also had my dream come true but my streak come to an end: after goıng 4-0 yesterday in backgammon, albeit to an american, it all came tumbling down. at the local bazaar, i crashed some shopkeepers games and after chatting, i got called in for a 5-point match. it started off decent, going 1-1, but then some bad luck fell my way and it was soon over at 5-1. i blame the fast-play style that they play, which i agreed to try out. it's hard to think of your move when you don't get time to! but after i treated myself to some nice turkish boreçi, bourekas, my favourite.
the food here is delish. their is plenty for me to take photos of, so what more could i ask for? time for some tea, or çay. off to selçuk tonight on the overnight bus.
