already off to a great start and the trip hasn't even begun. i got a call from lufthansa informing me that not only my flight from athens to frankfurt on my return leg is canceled, but also my frankfurt to dublin flight was being canned. then i got disconnected. on reconnection, i was offered a flight earlier in the day, but i'll still be in rhodes. so then i was offered the following day, except that meant spending new year's in an athens airport hotel, at my expense, with only a slight chance of being reimbursed. rather than engaging in some bad movie plot, i got a refund, scrambled, and found another athens to frankfurt flight and a separate frankfurt to dublin flight, with a modest hit of $70. at least i'm schedule to return to dublin with some time to spare now to prepare to welcome in 2009. to be continued for sure...
