After 2 days of no sleep, too much whiskey on the plane, random conversations with various travelers and a sore head I arrived in Bangkok on Wednesday morning local time 6.45am. Unfortunately I could not check into my hotel room until 3pm so decided to have a much needed wash and change of clothes at an airport hotel and then went for a trip into town.

Impressions of Bangkok - amazing really. It has the feel of a modern metropolis but sharply contrasted with the older traditional side; monks walk side by side with trendy Bangkok school kids. The place seems a lot more developed than I imagined with a huge amount of skyscrapers rubbing shoulders with older buildings. People are incredibly friendly and welcoming in general and as a tourist you are made to feel at home by the smiles and politeness of the people here. The traffic however is insane and a green light seems to mean nothing over here as cars and mopeds just plough through them. My main aim so far is not to get run over

So after a good nights sleep I am now starting my second day. Highlights incude a night bike tour of the river and waterways later on, some shopping, a massage and whatever takes my fancy. I am here until Saturday when I fly to Krabi so more to follow.

Hey buddy, glad you got there safe and sound on that awful non British Airways airline! Excellent that you're enjoying Bangkok, it's an awesome city full of wonderful contrast and mental drivers....that said, just so you don't take it out on the locals, MOST countries' drivers plough through green lights....ENJOY AMIGO!!!! Stay safe!
