Friday was our last day in Xela :( , so after we received our diplomas from Celas Maya we went out and partied hard to say goodbye! We got back to our casita at around 4am, and had to get up for the bus at 6:30am. As you can probably imgaine we stumbled our way to catch the bus, but made it safely (4 1/2 hours later). Once in Guatemala City, we headed for the airport to meet up with/ pick up Ryan, for our journey to Montericco. From Guatemala city we took what is known here as a chicken bus (2hours), to another small pueblito, and from there we hopped in the back of a pickup truck to the dock in Montericco (another 1/2 hour ride). To actually get to the city on the blacksand beaches you have to get on a boat, and ride though a canal/swap (30 minutes). Our day of traveling ended at about 4:30pm. The first thing we did was through on our bathing suits and jump in the ocean. I have never felt a stronger current, we were literally getting tossed in every direction
It is incredibly beautiful here (and HOT, not like Xela).Pigs, dogs, chickens, goats and cows wonder the streets like people. We even ate next to a pelcan our first night here! There are hardly any actual buildings, they all have palapas as roofs (thatched roof with palm tree leaves) and trunk of trees to support them.
Our first night here we stayed in a very small hostel room that was literally 25 feet from the beach, the sound of the wave lulled us to sleep after partying on the beach. The next day we checked into Jonnys Place, into an incredible 2 story Villa. We even have our own private pool (for $25 each a night!). We have another 4 days here to just RELAX, in a hamock, our getting tossed around in the strong ocean current! On Thursday we are headed to San Pedro on Lake Atitlan, to celebrate St. Patricks day and Jennas birthday. Everyone we have met along the trip is going to be there to party hard!
