We flew back into Thailand today. I didn't think I'd ever be happy to be in Bangkok again, but it's certainly nice to no longer fear the government. This morning we met a young couple from Florida, Rebecca and Casey. She's originally from Oregon, but they met in the navy stationed near Tampa. They're a lot of fun and randomly decided (during our plane flight) to completely change their plans and come with us to Kho Phanang. We hadn't even thought to invite them since they had seemed so dead-set in their plans to go north. But we're very glad to have them along. The four of us have to make our bus at 7:30 tonight and have spent the day lazily gathering what provisions we can find. I've been on the lookout for a visor to somewhat contain my massive hair. Despite the sun and heat, everywhere near Kao San Rd. is selling beanies (tukes) and not visors. Crazy Bangkok....
I did actually write that the day we flew back, so I figure I'll leave it intact. Based on the descriptions and advice given to us by Nadine and Kelly (way back near Inle Lake), Rebecca and Casey decided to take a chance. Plus Jon and I are stand up guys. (And they've been married for 4 years and known each other for 8 or 10, so they've run out of things to say to each other. Time for fresh blood.) To give you a better image of them, they're the complete All-American couple. Just looking at them makes me want to grill up some hot dogs and light off fireworks while complaining about taxes. They met in the navy, got married and have both just finished their undergraduate education. Casey played football in high school. Rebecca was the manager of her high school volleyball team. Apple-fuckin-pie. I love 'em. (Also, though it doens't look like it in all her pictures, Rebecca looks a lot like Sarah Michelle Gellar).
The bus to Surat Thani was incredibly comfortable. We made it to the dock cheaply and with ease. Next stop, Kho Phangan.
