PreVoyage Check-In
Entry 1 of 87 | show all | print this entry |
I leave for SFO in the morning. I just wanted to send this preliminary entry to make sure that I have everyone's e-mail correct and that I understand this whole entry-making process.
For reasons of both formality and continuity, I'll include in this entry what I ate today. Breakfast was a croissant, yogurt, and orange juice. Lunch was a thick bacon cheese burger. And dinner has been bacon, bread with brie, cantaloupe, and pizza. I anticipate mentioning food often in this blog, so I figure listing that baseline makes sense. As far as my feelings on leaving tomorrow... I am currently living rent free in my hometown without a job or any pressing financial need to seek a job. I'm surrounded by more friends and family than any person could hope for. Briefly: I'm comfortable to an unrealistic extreme. So, it's time to plunge into the unfamiliar because real life just isn't this nice and can't stay so for long. I leave with the comfort of having spoken to and seen most of you in these recent days and a little anecdote I picked up somewhere. A king commissioned the brightest and most educated men in his kingdom to take every piece of knowledge in existence and summarize them so that he might know everything. After examining all that was known, the group of men came back to the king with a single sentence. "This too shall pass."
Also, please send the link to this page to anyone I may have forgotten to contact. (i.e. Debbie, if you could pass this on to Jan, Fritz, Big Jon, your husband, and anyone else, that'd be great).

Mike called us this morning three times and the third time was the charm as we were able to actually talk to each other. He said they had a great flight, Singapore Airlines was the best, and they have not slept at all. Found some friendly people and are going to get some sleep at the hostel since it is almost 11:00 pm in Seoul.
