The morning after the night before was heralded by a 6.30am call from my energy provider – no I don't want you to notionally supply my gas and thanks for calling me on my mobile in the US at a /min to ask. I was supposed to be on the road early to walk in about four hundred parks on the way up the coast.  I did not leave until after 10 after seeing off some leftovers from breakfast. After a cursory look at the atlas I thought I knew I where I was going – of course I went the wrong way!  And it was a very fortunate mistake as I ended up at the southern end of the Sonoma coast state park which is a beautiful 30 mile stretch of stunning coast and cove.  The surf was definitely up and the crashing waves and the churning foam were an amazing sight.  It was a good job that my legs were not up to the 7 mile hike in Jean Claude Van Damme state park cos I ended passing it well after 3pm thanks to the numerous wave watching stops.

I carried on up California Highway one and could see why it is called the shoreline highway.  The only downside was that I was having to negotiate the tight turns in the fun bus rather than my S3 – had a few 'oooohhhh she-diddly-it moments!  The amazing thing was the road was full of cyclists – more two wheels than four despite the tight turns and 1 in 4 hills.  And they were all going south – I guess so they could be on the right side for the sea views – or maybe they were chasing the sun – who knows.

By the time I made it to Fort Bragg I was all healed of my sea deprivation with a healthy lungful of salty goodness.  My only other challenge was at the supermarket – no, I was not arrested for self bagging again (don’t go there – perverts!) I was asked for my club card – eh – this is a supermarket why must you make this complicated?!

I think I will have some more cheetos J

What I saw: The most stunning coastline for mile after mile.

What I ate: Spicy cheetos and hummus – what, don’t knock until you’ve tried it J

What I got:  Sunburn – seriously it is late October and I got myself a (un)healthy pink glow.

What got my goat: Trying to get my laptop to connect to any wireless network.  Seriously – having free wifi in the room is great but of my pesky laptop will not connect to it - it may as well cost a million quid.

What I listened to: Sirius Radio station 22.  The same DJ (poor fella pulled a long shift) was spinning up ‘classic alternative’ music all day.  I have never got the tag of alternative that is used over here – it seems to mean anything that doesn’t involve beards, hats and rhinestones.  Then again the music choices (OMD, the Mode, ABC, the Ballet, the Banshees and so on through classic eighties British music) are what I collect on my iPod under the ‘indie’ genre which is just as inaccurate and meaningless.  Best moment of the day was hearing the Jones (ok that doesn’t work) Howard Jones again for the first time in an age.
