With our one month anniversary of arriving in South America we suddenly realized that due to the size of Argentina we haven't left the country except for a few days in Uruguay at the start. With this we decided to hop on an internal flight to head up north to the Lakes district and avoid the 30 hours plus bus trip.
So we booked ourselves on to Argentines national airline for the 1 hour 45 minutes flight north. Due to vast open lands around the small town on El Calafate we're not sure why the tiny airport was built 23 kmīs out of town but it was nice to just rock up and get on a plane instead of searching around the bus station trying desperately to found our bus hoping that the last announcement in Spanish was not that our bus had just left!!!!
The plane hadn't been refurbished since the 1970īs and looked something out of one of them 70īs Aeroplane disaster movies
Having safely arrived in Bariloche we had the great prospect of a second dorm room!!! Yes having loved the buck beds so much last time we couldn't resist. Still it's a very cool hostel and nice to be with follow pisspot travelers like us rather then the ones who want to trek half way up a mountain before breakfast.
The next day with hired a car to explore the local lakes which were just amazing. It was so nice to have our own transport again rather then public buses and tours. Still getting use to the local driving styles took a while as did driving on the other side of the road. Still after I realized that the locals didn't care what side of the road they drove on and you only gave way to the car that pulled out first it was like Childs play!!!
So the next day we did nothing at all really... We managed to pull ourselves out of bed at around noon and then headed into town. We stopped for a coffee/hot chocolate, headed to the supermarket and got some soup for lunch. At the hostel, our favourite so far (even though we were in dorm rooms!) we had lunch and then lounged around and read a little. By this time it was late afternoon. A few beers started flowing and then it was all over! Anyways, we got to know our room mates and even managed our chinese (Chicken fried rice) for dinner.. BTW - Happy valentines day!
7am the next morning we needed to be on a bus to CHILE...

Lakes District - Argentina
. It was the first time I've seen some of the seatbelt / no smoking lights with half the bulbs not working!!! The flight was pretty much non exciting excepted for the catering. The Argentinean stable of ham and cheese sandwich was again on the menu. Now don't get me wrong I don't mind one....maybe with a bit of mayo....even a slice of tomato for taste but after a month of constantly getting this ham that tastes more like spam and plastic cheese it's getting a bit much!!!!! Having seen the sandwiches being dished out I have to admit it was the closest I've come to air rage!!!!Having safely arrived in Bariloche we had the great prospect of a second dorm room!!!
