It is September 7, 2007 and the day has not turned out quite as expected. We had intended to be totally packed up, moved out of our house and into the trailer, and on the road by 11 AM. Yeah, not so much. First, getting the packing done and the house completely cleaned for our tenant took way longer than expected. Finally, somewhere around 5 PM, we thought we were ready. So we hooked up the rig to the truck and started up. Promptly, the check engine light came on. Then the passenger rear tire of the trailer turned out to be flat. It was already late, we were tired and stressed, and Steven (the brother staying at our house while we're gone) was due to show up at any minute to move in. It took us another 2 hours before we had things fixed and ready so we could leave. We never did see Steven, so I guess he was running late too. The drive was uneventful, thankfully, and we made it to the campground around 9:30. What a start.
So the next day, Saturday, we spent settling in. We drove 20 minutes to the Kingdom Hall so we could check the sign and and see the meeting times. We followed the GPS directions to what seemed like the middle of the freeway. Who puts a KH in the middle of a freeway? Anyway, we get there and, sure enough, there's a little triangle of property hanging over the freeway. Go to the left, you fall off. Go to the right, you fall off. But park smartly in the middle, and surprise! There's a Kingdom Hall. We went to the meeting the next day (very friendly congregation) and find out that this will be their last meeting here for several weeks, due to a remodel. But when asked where we were staying (Santee Lakes campground) we were told that there was a KH just down the street from us! In fact, it was right across the street from the shopping center that we had been to a hundred times the last time we had stayed at the campground. It's way off the main street, with a teeny tiny sign out front. Apparently the city limited the size. Anyway, attending this congregation turned out to be not only spiritually uplifting, but a lot of fun as well. Tune in to the next entry and read all about it!
