As mentioned previously, I left Siem Reap the day after visiting the temples at Angkor and after a very long sleep - around 12 hours. It's amazing how tiring walking around old buildings is. My journey back to the capital was uneventful, although I was the only Westerner on the bus, which meant that I got mobbed by every man and his dog when we reached Phnom Penh. After swearing at a couple of people who wouldn't leave me alone, I out-flanked the group of tut-tut drivers and hotel representatives by walking straight through a restaurant.
I checked into the hotel I'd decided on previously and got in touch with Marc, who was in town after leaving Vietnam. We managed to find an up-market Cambodian restaurant (one that the more well-off locals, but not tourist, would use) and enjoyed some good food, which was reasonably cheap.
In the morning the hotel owner gave me and my big (and getting heavier backpack) a lift on his motorbike. He placed the backpack in front of him and fortunately it didn't fall off during the ride. At the airport I was told that my bag was 3 kgs over the 15kg limit. I then put some of the heavier items into my hand luggage and the guy at the gate was happy enough. Can't see what difference that makes in the grand scheme of things, but I wasn't complaining and he seemed happy enough.
