Where I stayed
What I did
The Orchid Suites was a pleasant surprise. It was meticulously clean, smelt nice, large, two bedroom, free breakfast, basically everything the Columbus in San Francisco wasn't. We were a short (100m) walk from the Hollywood and Highland shopping complex which stayed open until late (very dangerous on the wallet). Dinner was Johnny Rockets an authentic 50's diner, still no Richie or Fonzie!
Since there wasn't much else to write about I am going to include a few bits and pieces
Firstly the car. It averages about 8.5L per 100km which is excellent fuel economy for a seven seater. It has storage in the floor (great for dirty wading, Pepsi max supply and shoes and shopping), we can charge electrical items in the power point, arm rests, sliding doors controlled with the press of a button. The individualised air conditioner meant everyone could adjust the temperature to meet their comfort levels. It also provided us with satellite radio which meant we had an endless supply of 80's, 90's and top 40 hits. We have really enjoyed its comforts and was a good choice of hire car.
Secondly sleeping. We've discovered Gracie has a delicate little snore, Thomas loves to moan in his sleep, Hamish sleeps on everyone's side of the bed but his own and in weird positions (hence no one wants to sleep with him), Leisa only sleeps well in the tent and Dan ..... Just sleeps!
Tom ate 22 burgers!
Our favourite national park day was the hike to the Agnes Lake tea house and Lake Louise canoeing. Most special moment was watching the bear feed on the side of the road on the drive to Maligne Lake Jasper
Dan only drove on the wrong side of the road twice, but had a very silly moment when he decided to store my Aussie IPad chip in the back of his phone case for safe keeping, never to be seen again!
We ate 2.4kg of mm's, 1 kg of peanut butter cups, 1kg of rolos and 1kg of peppermint patties. The best trail mix in the country.
