Sawatdee-Kap!

After a nice 2nd class 13 hour train ride we finally made it up to Chang Mai and are staying at a sweet guesthouse with a pool for an impressive 250 Baht/night (about $3 apiece).  The lady who runs the place is hilarious, her name is Mama Honey and she's quite the sales woman...  She's always trying to get us to go for massages or to deliver food to us or book tours for us, but she's just so friendly that it's hard to hold it against her.  I love it up here so far, the people are so much less pushy even the Tuk-tuk drivers are pretty chill.  We wound up booking a 3 day / 2 night trekking tour which leaves tomorrow morning which I'm pretty stoked about.  We're going to be staying with some hill-tribes, swimming in some waterfalls, bamboo rafting and riding elephants.  From what I've heard, these treks are an amazing time.

It seems like the travelling community here is pretty small.  We've run into a bunch of people on more than one occasion and it's always like seeing an old friend even if you only spoke with them for a couple of minutes.  When we got off the train to Chang Mai, Mama Honey talked us into getting into a minivan to her guesthouse and we wound up being in the same van as two girls from Vancouver one of which was sitting right in front of us on the flight to Bangkok.  So we've been hanging out with them the last couple of days and yesterday we met up with a guy from Vernon they had met before.  Small world.  We all went out last night and after some good Thai Whisky at our guesthouse we went to this bar called Spicy which was a great time.  The place didn't even get busy until after 1 and then from then on it was packed.  In the bathroom I went to wash my hands and then all of a sudden there's this Thai guy who puts me in a full nelson and starts cracking my joints.  Just think of the bathroom guys at Caprice except they give you a chiropractic adjustment while you wash your hands.  At least he didn't do it while I was going to the bathroom, that'd just be a little awkward...

I keep thinking I see ladyboys everywhere though.  For the last few months everyone was just telling us how many there are here, so every time I see a pretty Thai girl it's always in the back of my mind.  Some of them are pretty obvious though, like the group of three of them who full on just grabbed me and Karl's crotches on the way home.  "Where you going?  I go with you to hotel?"  Haha, pretty funny I guess but still pretty weird.

We've been lounging poolside today all day and then tonight we're going to hit up a wat (temple) to catch the sunset and chill with some monks and then after that go the night bazaar to grab a couple of things for the trek tomorrow morning.  I could get used to this lifestyle...

Hope all is well back home!

Vancouver
It has been raining almost nonstop since you left. Maybe the skies are crying because they miss you.
