Where I stayed
shoulders and legs are sore. I woke up at
6 am but out of consideration for my roommate (room for 4-there were 2 of us),
I was quiet until 7. After she started
telephoning, I got up and wrote up notes for the last 2 days. We had a very nice chat. Her mom is Canadian and her father
Japanese-American. She was born in
California but has lived in Japan most of her life until going away to school
in New York. I asked where—Columbia. So we shared our stories of Morningside
Heights. She is studying math and
economics but thinks economics is bullshit.
She left and I had to hustle to get out by 10 am. I decided to try the train to Tokyo Station
this time to save on all those taxi rides.
One change, lots of queries
too bad. Tokyo Station is more confusing
but now I have my ticket to Hakodate. I
had to wait 2 hrs to get a window seat.
The waiting room was quite crowded but I got to sit and put my bags
I anticipated all sorts of problems changing trains with less than 15 minutes to
spare but it turned out OK. I survived the
giant Seikan tunnel that goes to Hokkaido. There have been lots of tunnels on all my train rides here.
I managed to get a hotel room despite tourist information/help being
closed. I don’t have a waterfront view
but I do have a nice non-smoking room. I
am not permitted to use the hotel bath because of my tattoo. I was going to have sushi room service but
they don’t do room service. The waitress
was ultra perky—she moved extremely fast and bowed a lot. It’s 8:30 pm and I am going to bed and will look
for internet tomorrow. Not too much excitement today.
