The lead-up to this trip has gone more smoothly, but I had a difficult time booking my flights because of the various hostilities and closed borders in this part of the world. I ended up getting a round-trip flight from JFK to Yerevan, Armenia via Vienna where I am at the moment. My visa application to Azerbaijan seemed to take a lot longer than they promised and I fretted over the delays. There was a bit of a snafu with the invitation letter and voucher because they had my old passport number on them and I had to get a new passport in the interim. There just seemed to be more anxieties in the run-up to departure.
And my packing and preparation seemed to go less smoothly as well
I was planning on taking the train to NYC and then the LIRR and airport shuttle, but the mid-morning train was over $10 more than the early am one, so I checked out other possibilities. I found a shuttle service from Albany Airport to the NYC airports and decided to take that. I am not sure I will again - it was pretty convenient - dropping me off at my terminal and all - but it was late and there was no confirmation so I didn't know if I would get on or not, and I can't read in buses/cars/vans. There is a baby screaming here - there are banks of seats at the gates and a free WLAN section here with cubicles, outlets and table-like surfaces to use laptops on. Very nice, considering how hard it was to find outlets at JFK and the BOINGO wifi there is not free.
I am pretty thirsty and will have to look for something to drink soon. I will be here in the Vienna airport for some time. I arrived around 8:30 am and don't leave until after 10 pm. It will be a long day unless I find something more interesting.....
