2010 U.S. Road Trip – Day 12 -
6/30/2010 – Destination Flagstaff, AZ

Woke up to a downpour this morning
which made it difficult to tear down camp. That seam sealer that I
had applied to the rain fly prior to leaving for this trip proved its
worth last night. The rain did let up off and on but we had to pack
a wet tent which is something I don't like to do but I had to do it
in this case.

As we traveled through western New
Mexico we crossed several mountains including Capitan, Magdalena,
Gallinas, Datil, and Galo. The scenery had changed for the better.
We traveled through desert land that was surrounded by mountains.
There weren't any tall trees, only small shrubs. The view was
amazing as you will see from the photos. These views continued as we
crossed into Arizona. We chose to stay off of I-40 and I'm happy we
did because I don't believe these views could have been possible from
I-40 and we passed through several small towns which made the drive
even more interesting.

Soon after we crossed into Arizona we
made a stop at the Petrified Forest National Park. The park employee
at the entrance informed me that we were now on Mountain Standard
Time. That was good news because now we had gained another hour and
we are now 3 hours behind the folks at home. The petrified wood
could be seen around the exterior of the museum and along the park
road. There were several commercial business selling petrified wood
outside the boundaries of the park but visitors were not allowed to
take any petrified wood outside the park.

We will camp at the Flagstaff KOA

Faith on

Thus far I do believe that the pics from Western New Mexico are the best. It seems like ya'll are having a blast. Thanks for sharing some of the great views/sites that the US of A has to offer. Many people aren't able to get out of their neighborhood but you all experiencing much more. I know that Taty and Denzel realize that they are truly blessed and thankful to have this opportunity. Enjoy the journey and be safe
