He started off looking around the town at things like the unique golf course situated out by the flat land, unique because it has no grass, no trees and no water hazards, just lots of red dirt and oil greens. They then went to the underground Serbian Orthodox Church Saint Elijah. This was very impressive as it took 4 weeks to excavate with the mechanical bogger than a New Zealander came over and carved the statues in the walls.
Next was a visit to the Umoona Opal Mine display and opal shop where they watched an award winning documentary on The Story of the Opal, shown in an underground cinema followed by complimentary morning tea before checking out the underground home and the adjoining display working mine.
I'm sure you noticed that Doug went by himself, he did try this afternoon to get me into the Underground Church but I couldn't get past the walkway and I'm glad I didn't waste our money on going with him this morning. We did also have a good look around town, out to the cemetery up to the Big Winch and lookout. I can't comment on the shopping because half of it is underground but the IGA supermarket was very competitive.
Back to Port Augusta tomorrow via Woomera. Then we'll be homeward bound.
