Doug woke this morning to a Happy Birthday banner strung up around the living area of the caravan and then had a few cards to open.  The funny thing was when he opened the card from the Quartermaine boys it started to sing and flap around, it sounded very loud at 7.00am in the caravan park.  It was very funny/  A good way to start the day.

Wallaroo to Port Augusta was a very different scenic drive up through the Flinders Ranges after Port Pirie.  I'm sure Doug was going to find Macca on Sunday who we'd been listening to and was broadcasting from Port Pirie, unfortunately we only arrived there at 9.45am and he finished at 10am, not that we found the ABC studio even though we drove around the main central area a couple of times.

He thought he'd found Macca but it was only the Sunday markets.  So we kept driving and had our second stop for the day overlooking the Spencer Gulf on one side and the Flinders Ranges on the other.  We thought we'd have a big drive today, 280km's, but actually we arrived in Hawker, having stopped for morning tea and lunch along the way, about 1.30pm.

Along the way we came across the Pichi Richi Steam Railway attraction.  It runs from Quorn to Pichi Richi and back again.  Doug is hoping to catch it on the way back and go for a ride.  We think is was part of the old Ghan Railway network to Darwin.

After setting up we had an early afternoon tea with the birthday cake and candle on top and the singing of course, before exploring Hawker.  We were pleasantly surprised when we paid a visit to the Hawker Panorama.  It was a 360 degree building with a very in depth painting of Wilpena Pound then another area of paintings of some of the gorges in the area.  A must for everyone who travels this way.

Then we drove out to Jarvis Hill Lookout and walked a long 250m to the top - not actually a very well defined track and one of us was a bit nervous about finding their way down again.  It was worth the effort because the view was spectacular.  This has us excited about what's to come tomorrow.

We finished of the day by walking down to the hotel for dinner  (there was no choice in where we went), the place was packed just the same and the food was good.

It was nice hearing from all our family and friends today.
