Where I stayed
We departed San Antonio at 8:45 and arrived in Corpus Christi at 11:00. Via cell phone we found out that the other car was an hour behind us. With time to kill, we toured the aircraft carrier Lexington, docked in Corpus Christi bay.
The other car eventually made it to Corpus Christi parking at a Holiday Inn. We met up with the other group on the beach outside of the Holiday Inn and rented chairs and umbrellas. The beach is on the bay, so the water was rather calm and warm, but not all that pretty. We dined on hamburgers in the Holiday Inn restaurant. I actually went in the water a couple of times. The water is very shallow for a great distance
After a day on the beach, we went our separate ways. The other car returned to San Antonio. I requested heading to the Padre Island National Park. Ken said he likes to drive so off we went. We drove down the coast as far as we could checking out the incredible waterfront mansions. Eventually we dead-ended at a Coast Guard station, so backtracked and took an inland road to the highway leading to the park. We paid the $10 entry fee and boy, was it worth it. When I saw the water, I exclaimed, "Now this is a beach!" The Gulf of Mexico water was a beautiful clear blue. We took a walk in the water along the beach for about an hour before heading out. Chuck and Ken thanked me for making the suggestion. If you ever get a chance, this is one beach to check out.
We headed back on the highway towards San Antonio and stopped at a Subway to get a bite to eat. I-37 does not have too many options between Corpus Christi and San Antonio.
We eventually arrived back at MACC at 10:30 PM, and I promptly headed to sleep.
