Timeline for San Antonio to El Paso
12:50 PM
Depart MACC for El Paso.
2:15
Five minute bathroom and stretch break at the 394 mile marker on I-10.
4:15
Cross the Pecos River.
4:30
First glimpse of the wind farms of Texas. Quite cool seeing the giant windmills. The blades seem to rotate slowly, but I guess they rotate fast enough to generate power.
5:15
Random rain sprinkles begin.
6:45 - 7:15
Stop to fill gas tank and dine on a turkey sandwich at a truck stop Subway; Exit 140, Van Horn, TX.
7:30
Mile Marker 124
Only 100 miles to my El Paso exit.
Quite cool lightning off in the distance
9:00
Arrival at Quality Inn, El Paso (local time 8:00)
560 miles
After checking in and relaxing, I went to the lounge here in the hotel. After being the designated driver for six weeks, I enjoyed an extra margarita.
Interesting signs seen on the highway:
CAUTION
Blowing Dust
and
PRISON AREA
Do not pick up hitch hikers
Overall my ride through western Texas was fantastic. The scenery is beautiful with incredible hills, etc.
Off to Phoenix!
