. After the drive through you park and take a walk around a little zoo were there are about thirty baby bears, they were adorable! Ok, so after eating her first ever bison burger (Debbie that is) we headed up Rt 16 to see Mount Rushmore. We drove through this great little town that looked like it was straight out of a cowboy movie, (I think the bar actually had swinging doors.) 10 mins later we arrived at Mount Rushmore State Park. For only $10 per car (and we can go back with the same parking pass anytime before December!!!!!) we drove into the park. It was AMAZING!! Until you actually see it it is hard to imagine the work and bravery that went into making it. We talked to some really cool people while sitting in the ampitheater, just starring up at the monument. After a little performance by Ellie and Juliet on a cute little stage, we ate a huge icecream, photographed three children from Washington state, then headed out. Back at the hotel not five mins. and the girls had us back at the water park. Juliet had a blast, Ellie was a little more timid and sat with the grown ups for a little while. After a couple of hours we decided that we were not ordering pizza and pasta, we got dressed, and headed into downtown Rapid City for a nice meal. Well I was shocked we found the coolest bar and restaurant in the middle of Main Street. It was called the firehouse and it had the most amazing outside seating area with a stage and a band getting ready to play. The food was great, the band was great but I had two very very tired little girls. Needless to say I ate my food with a child on each knee and we did not stay to long. I wonder what could have worn them out!!!!! Ok next stop for the bolg will probably be in Chicago. Home soon!!!! Love you all thanks for following us the "Gasoline Gypsies" as we take this amazing journey across this amazing land!!!!
Well Rapid City fast became our second favorite place on this whole trip. As you can imagine seeing the hotel after that 10 hour drive from hell was like seeing water in the dessert. Our hotel had a really cool water park attached to it.Much to Ellies dissapointment the water park was not open when we arrived at 11pm. After a little meltdown, she understood that they had to clean it and that we could be the first ones in it at 8am. Within a few mins. everyone was asleep I was still driving in my sleep. We were up and eating breakfast by 8am, (well we left Debbie sleeping) and we were in the water park by 8.30am, By 8.35 I thought I was going to lose my breakfast after going down a really crazy toilet bowl style water ride. As soon as Debbie was up we headed out. First stop was Bear Country, an amazing drive through safari, with elk, bison, wolves, and amazing bears. It was great. As you drove into the bear enclosure there is a person who speaks from a watchpoint to remind you to put up your windows up. Well Debbie and I being who we are we had to sneak our windows down to get better pictures. The six year old minipolice officer in the back seat was yelling at us to put up our windows
