May 16th - Day 8 - Manang Acclimatization Day (3540 m)
At a great hotel here in Manang. After breakfast, the three of us walked over towards the lake and glacier. Walking on the ridge there were a few points where the path was about a foot wide with a sheer drop on the other side. The wind was quite strong, and at those points I once again found the Fear.
I don't know when the Fear started creeping into my life. I usually say around 30, but I don't really know. There have been a few times on this trip where I have been terrified to the point of non-being, reduced to a huddling mass of helpless animal noises. Somehow they pass, I go on, but I wouldn't say I have learned to control it any better with time. And I certainly don't have less fear. If there is any profundity I might pull out of this, it's that facing fear or feeling it, allows you over time to realize you can through it.

The Fear
The advent of the Fear signifies your transition to older and wiser. AND even better is that you seem to have done a great job at facing it and telling it where to go and what it should do with itself once it gets there.
Fear
All through the years, we face what's ahead and some times we wonder where will we end up. We face fear, the unknown and we struggle but once we face it straight on and tell it to flee, usually we can move forward. As one who has known fear, faced it many times and will most likely again, I salaute you for being brave and daring and willing to move forward. We are following you closely here and waiting to see what else will challnge you but we have the faith to believe you will succeed in all you do
