Lake City. Venice of the East. There are some of the monikers that Udaipur goes by. The main tourist area is along the north-east section of Lake Pichola. Within a few minutes walk are beautiful old havelis, the Raj´s Palace, Jagdish Temple, ghats where woman and their children still come down to the lake to wash clothes, and winding streets where you can meet anything from Sadhus to elephants.

I loved Udaipur. While touristy, I never experienced the more aggressive forms of tourism that is rampant in other areas of India. The people were friendly, and the views of the famous Lake Palace (seen in the James Bond film Octopussy) are wonderful. Never once did anyone say anything other than pleasant things, with many people coming up to admire Danayi´s skin or hair, or to tell her (and occasionally me) that she was beautiful.

After some of the experiences in other parts of India, it was a welcome change. Enjoy the photos, and if you are in Rajasthan, stop in for a visit.

Sorry for the shortness of the entry. This is more a photo entry than words. Good experiences aren´t nearly as fun to write about as bad. I´ll get better, I promise.
