Ok, Lonely Planet, if you wanted my attention, the phrase "gastronomic orgasm" was a good way to get it. I trekked across Istanbul to get the restaurant you mentioned. I had the recommended "lamb crepe", as well as a rice dish for a starter. The rice dish was nice, flavorful with almonds, pine nuts, cloves, but missing the advertised chicken. The lamb crepe, well, was pretty damn good actually. The "crepe" was rather thick, almost a lasagna noodle consistency. Inside were small pieces of incredibly tender lamb, and mixed veggies. It was topped with a couple of slices of cooked tomatoes and peas. Orgasmic? I'm not quite sure. But I think I might have felt a twitch (Hey! I warned you this thing could be immature at times).

The desert at this place was called "quince." It would be best described as a hard fruit jelly, red in colour. Sprinkled over the top are ground pistachios and raisins and "something" else. It is served with "milk cream." Not what you might expect - the cream is like a little log roll in the middle that you cut into slices and eat with the quince. Jelly and milk, odd perhaps. To get the texture and firmness of the cream, I would expect it to be frozen, but once again, expectations are defied. It is cool, at best, closer to room temperature. Best not to ask questions I suppose. Recommended.

I'll admit, I don't have a lot of Turkish yet. The funny thing are my "thank you"s. When I last visited Istanbul, in an attempt to remember the Turkish phrase for thank you, and it's approximate pronunciation, I came up with the word "testicular". Of course now, six months on, this is the only phrase I seem to remember. So for the last two days, I've been walking around and "Testicular!" to everyone. Either they think I'm a pervert, or that I am trying to raise awareness of a uniquely male cancer.

Finally Danayi sent me your blog ;-).I'm so jealous of your travels! BTW, I was in Istanbul and definitely experienced wonderful food (yes, orgasmic!). I've always wanted to travel by road from Turkey to Syria, Jordan and then end up in Egypt...sigh, one day...
