Once again, thank God for Pass/Fail. I decided that I was going to wake up at the crack of dawn today...okay, fine, 8ish am, and go to the train station and get on a train to Toledo. No classes today, it was supposed to be a Reading Day...but since I didn't need to do all that studying, I figured I would make use of my day and head to Toledo.
And, that's what I did!
It was later overtaken by the Christians and that's what it is today.
After successfully freaking out and thinking that I had no way to make it back to the train station on time, a taxi driver was nice enough to take me on the 2 second drive back to the beautiful Toledo train station. (I guess that's why no other taxi driver wanted to take me...).
I made it back on the train and back to Madrid in time for lunch...with plenty of time to study. Let me let you guess...do you think I did a lot of that? If you guessed no, you guessed right...
And, that's what I did!
On the train
I boarded the AVANT (fast train) and headed to Toledo. Toledo is known for its fine crafts, including weaponry and metal working. It's rich with history of the Moors, El cid, and El Greco. I learned that it used to be the country of the "beasts" - because it had 3 different religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Muslin - I thought to myself, hey, that's America and we're okay! It even had 3 names - Toledum, and some other things that I can't remember...I'm sure if I googled it I could find out.It was later overtaken by the Christians and that's what it is today.
Christian Conqueror
I took a little tourist bus into the old city gates, walked around, saw many landmarks, including the Cathedral (which is the second richest cathedral in the world, second to the Vatican), walked up into some scary (because it was a really small staircase)
Small Scary Staircase
arch way things - I didn't have an English speaking tour guide so I had to figure out a lot of things on my own and saw some beautiful views of the city. After successfully freaking out and thinking that I had no way to make it back to the train station on time, a taxi driver was nice enough to take me on the 2 second drive back to the beautiful Toledo train station. (I guess that's why no other taxi driver wanted to take me...).
