We spent a couple of nights in Townsville to break up our journey to Cairns.  A small town with very little going on.  We took the ferry out to Magnetic Island and decided to hire bikes to explore the little bays around the island.  We didn't realise just how hilly and tough the cycle was going to be, definately got our workout for the week that day!  We went to see the area on the island that was used by Australia to defend against military attack by Japan.  Again, a sweaty walk after an uphill bike ride and not much to see.  However, the major bonus of the day and what made the whole trip worthwhile was our first sighting of koalas in the wild.  We saw a mummy and baby sleeping in the tree with the baby sleeping contentedly on mummys head.  Very sweet....
