We have arrived back into Auckland and completed out tour around NZ.  We said a sad goodbye to Dirk yesterday and have been getting used to hostelling life again.  Auckland is a very happening spot.  So busy with people everywhere, a really good atmosphere around.  Its definitely been the busiest place we've been in NZ but then with 2/3s of the country living here, I suppose thats understandable.

We spent a night in Rotorua prior to coming here.  Rotorua is a real hotbed of geothermal activity, with mudpools, geysers and hot water everywhere.  We bathed in a hotspring river not far from where we were staying and I randomly lost my flip flops, I think they might have taken off in the river!  Theres also a strong smell of rotten eggs in the air, produced by the mudpools.  We went to a Maori cultural venue where we were entertained by some Maori entertainers.  We were warned by the host that we were not to laugh as it is a serious thing, hard not to though with all the tongue pointing and eye rolling!  Got to see our first Kiwi too...much bigger than we had thought.

So tomorrow we fly to Australia and say goodbye to New Zealand.  We've had such a great time here.  Its such a beautiful country with lots going on.  We had a laugh in Dirk and experienced real independence on the road on our own.  We will be sorry to leave but can't wait for Oz......
