We arrived into South Island today and made our way to Kaikora. Supposedly a very pituresqe town, unfortunately we haven't seen much yet as its been raining quite a bit! We're supposed to be going whale watching tomorrow so hopefully the weather picks up. We have been a bit unfortunate with the weather as right before we arrived they were having lots of sun and heat and they were praying for rain...well it looks like we managed to bring them some! Saying that we have had some sunshine, some really lovely days and the outlook is good!
So as you see from the map entries we have been making our way through North Island for the past week. We are now joined by our new friend Dirk (the campervan!). We are enjoying the independence of driving around and doing our own thing and the facilities at each campsite are always great. Calling Dirk a "campervan" is actually glorifying it a little as it is actually a Toyota people carrier with the seats removed and a mattress in the back! Its also our wardrobe and store for all our cooking bits and pieces at the moment! So far so good though!
North Island was really nice, despite patches of rain around. Its been lovely waking up right next to a beach and being able to have a nice walk in the morning. We've been staying in most places for about one night and on the road every day but we have more time in the South Island so we can spread our time about a bit better.
So heres to some sunshine and a few whales tomorrow!
