The resort we stayed at was right beside a little village, with a school right outside our room. It was lovely in the evenings when there was a church service, you could hear the beautiful singing of the Fiji people while sitting in the hammock outside our room.
So when we weren't simply chilling by the sea, we actually did use up some energy.....we took a walk around the whole island...really beautiful, it took us about 4 hours to do that. U can see the island where they filmed the movie "Castaway" in the distance (we were going to do a trip to it but as no others signed up we didn't get a chance). Apparantly "Survivor" was filmed on the other side of our island and we made a stop today at Bounty island where "Celebrity Love Island" was filmed, so again walking in the path of celebrities (if you would call most of them that!). We hired some snorkel gear and snorkelled around our own little beach....we discovered this little beach on our walk and went back there a few times....all to ourselves! I also indulged in some relaxing treatments (as if I needed to be any more relaxed!). For my birthday, Declan treated me to a back massage and facial at the Ratu Kini Spa and the lovely therapist Sherry offered me a free body massage as a birthday treat....very nice!
Our big expedition was a scuba dive to a coral reef. This was great but actually terrifying to start with! Following a mini lesson in the shallow water, we donned our gear and headed to deeper waters. I freaked out quite a bit heading down leading the otherwise lovely and very reassuring Natalie, our dive instructor to get a little cross and basically tell me to get over it! So down we went (a depth of about six meters we think). It turned out to be really cool, we saw some lovely fish, like a little "Nemo" family, mum, dad and tiny little baby. There was a big chance of seeing some reef sharks, but i think i'm glad we didn't.....i think it would have definetly got me bursting to the surface!
We also randomly ran into the first person from home that we've met so far, a guy called Brian Martin from Ashbourne whose parents are originally from Kinawley/Killesher. Very strange and random to meet someone you know on an island in Fiji. It was nice though to share a few beers with him and his girlfriend Caoimhe last night and we had a few rounds of cards with them this morning before we left!
Photos don't seem to be happening for some reason so u will have to wait to see sunny Fiji...!
Off to New Zealand in the morning where our campervan awaits us!! Cant wait.....
