Chatswood in Sydney or Indooroopilly in Brisbane).
We went to this amazing ramen place for lunch - specialising in Shouyu tonkotsu ramen (soy & pork based soup with noodles). Delicious! Better than any ramen I've had in Australia. I usually don't have tonkotsu ramen because its too fatty for me, but this was the perfect balance.
Ramen places are quite different in Japan - you often order at a vending machine outside the
restaurant then give the ticket to the person when you go in
it's quite an atmosphere.
We then went to an anime museum dedicated to a particular anime creator, Ghibli Museum
(the Disney of the east). Despite not having seen any of the particular anime featured, it was a fun and educational afternoon. We got to see the demonstrations of how they made the anime, old style with drawing & painting, from start to finish. There was a mini theatre with a very cute short film that had very few words so we could understand what was going on. Pretty much everything was written in Japanese, but we still got a lot out of it.
One of the cutest things was the childrens play area. On the map, it just said Neko (cat) Bus. We were like, "What?" It turned out that one of the characters is a cat with lots of legs (there's a picture in my Odaiba entry) and it was this giant fluffy, well, neko bus play set! I would have got a photo but there were no photos allowed, but here's someone elses covert video
Afterwards we met up with some more friends and went out for some drinks & dinner. There isn't much wine in Japan, and it tends to be expensive. Beer is the most common drink it seems. We went to a European beer cafe and then onto a Yakitori restaurant. Yakitori is specifically chicken skewered on sticks & grilled with yummy flavour, but they serve heaps of other types of meat too. My partner tried heart, but I was too chicken... I did try raw chicken, which was actually pretty good. It was a very fun atmosphere & good food & company :)
We finished off the night with karaoke.
It was so much fun. We each took turns doing a song but I ended up with the last one of the night & did Jennifer Lopez On The Floor & had everyone up and dancing! I keep getting it stuck in my head now...
