Parts of Chiang Mai are flooded. It seems as though its been raining for 3 relentless days. Forgetting my previous experience, I go out with Jay to look at technical stuff. We meet some Australians Jay knows in Thailand. I try to explore a little more of the city while he helps them fix their computer. When he's done, we once again go in search of the Khantoke restaraunt. This time we reach it just as the show is beginning. I must say, the food is worth it! They serve a selection of the most delicious Northern Thai food I've tasted. Sitting on cushions on the floor, the food is offered on buffet style and every time one thing gets half full, the staff comes bearing more. We stuff our faces. The show is an interesting blend of traditional dances, but many of them are beautiful more than exciting. The orchestra is another matter. They play great old-style music, but appear to be enjoying some inside joke during this time. The members themselves perform the most interesting ensembles. A young boy does a sword dance and the percussion section displays a combination of playing and a dancing/acrobatic fusion. At one point, a woman dressed as a peacock does a beautiful dance while 2 people in a yak costume play with the audience. The yak jumps around and clacks its plastic mouth in response to customers. Though this is a tourist hot spot, I would definitely recommend it. It costs more than your average restaraunt, but the food is definitely worth it. Look for it under the Visa Hotel.
