Caught the ferry right away to Moorea, prices supposedly a bit cheaper for things. Still very expensive, but I was only planning 7 days here and wanted to get in a few dives.
The diving is extremely good - operation is run by a Frenchman who lives there now, and is moving into the business also of renting bungalows to divers; a good idea, since most of the town is very strung out along the round island road, giving people a fair bit of walking to go for a dive. However his prices were very typically French Polynesian, i.e. astronomical. Saw turtles and reef sharks twice on first dive. Kingfish, Lemon shark, more turtles, plethora of the other sort of fish to expect in tropical waters with healthy coral. The bummer for this trip was on the way back from the island to the airport, I got my camera stolen. S..t!, and you'll just have to believe me now about the sharks and turtles, since I hadn't downloaded the photos I took of them from my camera!!
