I am on an island called Itambira in Lake Bunyoni. It is beautiful here. I came with Lynsey, Claire and the 2 other Aussie girls - Jody and Blake. It seems like there are only women travellers in Africa. I'm not complaining.
Our taxi ride from Kabale to the pier was somewhat eventful. The driver's car started overheating half way there. I had absolutely no clue what to do but the girls definitely did. They instructed the driver to immediately turn off the car and put water in the radiator after it cooled down for a while. They gave further instructions and after
about 15 minutes we were ready to go. I was completely useless the whole time. I did take a picture though :)
The boat ride to the island was an interesting one. We rode in dugout boats which really is a trunk of a Eucalyptus tree that was carved into a boat. It was so cool. The ride was free because we had to row ourselves to the island - along with a guide. It took us an hour to get over there. It was a nice ride though.
Not much to do on the island except relax. I finished the first book (The Alchemist) of my trip which I only started a few days earlier. It was interesting to read as it was about a boy going through a journey through Africa - like me. I now started to read a book about Che Guevara. It's 1000 pages so I will; be reading it for a while.
At night, while having dinner, we met a Canadian couple doing volunteer work in Burundi and Rwanda. They told us all about their experience. Meanwhile, Blake and Jody described their experience volunteering at orphanages across Kenya. You really meet interesting people when you travel and learn a lot from them.
One last note - I realized that Uganda is the 35th country I have visited in my lifetime. It's the first time in my life that the number of countries I have been to is greater than my current age. I guess I should consider that a milestone. Lets hope the trend continues and I live to be 100.
