Today we did a hike through the forest. It was a nice trek. We didn't expect to see any wildlife but we saw some monkeys. Our 2 young guides were awesome and were able to spot them for us. Besides Lynsey and I, three other young guys joined us. They were also staying at the community camp which was surprising as the place did not get a lot of tourists. The guys were cool and it made the trek a lot more fun. One guy was from France while the 2 others were local Ugandans. All were in their early 20s.
The trek was actually quite tough. I am not sure how I am expected to climb Kilimanjaro if I cant even trek through these mountains without huffing and puffing. However, I am getting in better shape as each week goes by due to all the walking I do each day. I have already reduced my belly by 3 belt sizes!!! I am on my last hole. I will need to puncture a few more holes in my belt. Slowly I am getting to the weight I want to get to.
Towards the end of the trek, we met the local medicine man. He said he was 105. My guess is he has no idea how old he is. But he was definitely old. He did some kind of show for us. I didnt think it was all that interesting. He sang some medicine man song and did a medicine man jiggle. His son provided back up vocals.
When I got back to the community camp, I couldn't run fast enough to the shower which is really a tap with water coming out. The shower had the worst shower curtain in the world as it was too light which meant the wind kept blowing it up and down. The Ugandan women working close by definitely got a good look at my white ass a few times.
At night, all of us got together and had dinner by the balcony. We all got along. I enjoyed hearing everyone's stories.
Unfortunatley, no rain fell at night while I was sleeping.
