When I woke up this morning, my 2 roommates from Colorado were gone. They were on their way back to Colorado. The old lady was no where to be seen although her stuff was still by her bed.

I took off to see the longest remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall which is in a seedy part of town - at least it felt that way walking through it. The Wall was really amazing to see.  The art work on the wall was really interesting. They refer to this piece of the wall as a gallery and I understand why. I took a lot of photos and I'm looking forward to posting them for all of you to see. I am hoping that day is tomorrow.

I should note that the Berlin Wall actually wasn't a wall but rather a corridor. There were actually two walls, each separated by about 20 feet (I am estimating) Berlin10

. I bet you didn't know that. I bet you also didn't know that Berlin was invaded by 1.5 million Soviet soldiers during the war. Can you imagine? You can never say that my posts don't teach you anything.

The rest of the day was spent doing more sight seeing. I won't bother providing the details like I did in the previous update. You guys might stop reading my updates. But one place that was interesting was Bebelplatz which is the sight of the Nazi's first book burning. At the centre of the square you have a small window. When you look through the window, all you see are empty book shelves.

Anyhow, I have seen everything I wanted to see in Berlin. I will stay an extra day though. I am going to get up early again so I can visit the Berlin Wall and the Reichstag. The best pictures can be taken in the morning for both of these places. Besides, my camera battery ran out while I was at the Wall today so I need to go back to take a few more pictures anyway. Once I am done with those two places, I have to prepare for my move to Prague. I need to buy a train ticket and reserve a hostel. Also, I need to start thinking about Africa. I only have 3 more days in Europe and then I am off to Kenya. I need to do some reading to make sure I'm well prepared (i.e. money, accommodations, etc). I also need to spend some time doing fun things like laundry and searching for an Internet cafe that will allow me to download pictures on one of their computers. Any you thought traveling was all fun and games.

I am going to treat myself to a good dinner.

Good night.

I once was in Berlin...
...and had the greatest walking tour there! My friend and I have pictures of the Berlin Wall. When we developed the pics, we had forgotten what they were and were both wondering why we took pictures of a graffiti covered, crumbling wall! :-) I love reading about your travels and your hostel stories - it's getting me dangerously in the mood for travelling - and pretty near determined to do my own RTW trip. Later, Julie

Re: I once was in Berlin...
Just do it Julie :). You won't regret it! You only live once. I am glad you are enjoying the updates. I'm sure the updates from AFrica will be more interesting though.

Re: Que de découvertes!!!
Hello Sophie,

I tried putting pictures up today but the computer I was on was pretty crappy and was taking forever to upload. I will try in Prague.

Graffiti
I love the graffiti on the Wall (sorry - 'artwork')! So cool! I especially like the picture you have on your profile, that's an awesome shot.

I can't wait to hear about Africa!
