Where I stayed
This morning at the start in Rangpur at 07:00 everything was still a question mark. The Bangladesh-India border was the first destination. With our RDRS driver taking a shorter route than we had thought and hardly any traffic because it was the Friday holiday, we reached the Murimari border north of Patgram at 09:00. At both the Bangladesh side and the Cooch Bihar side in West Bengal passport formalities went smoothly. We were on the other side in one hour.
Chris negotiated a taxi for 600 rupees to drive us to Siliguri, where we hoped to get a permit for Sikkim. If this would not be possible we would go to Darjeeling. It took our taxi driver a while to find the Sikkim Tourist Office. At around 13:00 we found it. We needed to make photo copies of our passport and our visa with one passport photo for the permit. They could be made nearby while we had lunch at a very local restaurant. Like every one else that day the Sikkim tourist people were very pleasant to us and issued the permits immediately.
We paid 2,000 rupees for a Siligury-Gangtok Mahindra jeep for the two of us that brought us in 4 ½ hours to Gangtok. It was a spectacular drive, climbing and climbing. At certain places there were plenty of monkeys on the road side. The last half our we drove in the dark. So now we are only to pleased to stay for two nights in the Royal Plaza hotel. A treat after the two weeks of guesthouses, although they were good guesthouses.
So with this entry we are uploading the last pictures from amar sonar Bangla and the first from Sikkim.
