Roadtrip - Day Five
Mileage: 219.0 miles (1723.7 total)
Starting Location: Lake Livingston, TX
Ending Location: Freeport, TX
Day five started a bit earlier than I would have liked, when I woke up at 7am to the light (like usual) and as I was trying to go back to sleep, I realized something. Ants. All over the inside of the tent. Apparently there was a hole at one corner, and there was a colony making their way into the tent. I think it just started when I woke up, because there were only 20ish near me, and once I squished those, more kept coming
Also, since I got all the way to Lake Livingston, I was a bit ahead of what I was planning on, so I needed to kill some time before Danny and Sarah got back from Galveston. So I ended up driving to Danny's place first, so I would know where it was, and then go from there. I arrived at about 2:30ish, then gave Danny a call and heard that I had about two hours to kill. So I jumped online on hacked wireless (as usual) for a few minutes, but realized that the air conditioning doesn't work nearly as well when you're in park in the middle of the day, in a blazing hot parking lot. So even though the A/C was on full blast, it was pretty warm in the car. So I decided to drive around a bit, and eventually stumbled across the movie theatre, which I realized would be air conditioned. So I went to the first movie I saw on the list (at the time I was there) which was You, Me, and Dupree. I must say I didn't have very high expectations, Owen Wilson is usually only mildly funny, and very intermittent. But I was definently pleasantly surprised, the movie didn't outright suck, it was moderately decent. Plus the A/C was so powerful and refreshing, it literally felt like I had taken a nap, eaten a full meal, and showered all at the same time!
So I went back to Danny's place (outside it anyways to the hacked wireless) and shortly after Danny and Sarah came by
After that we decided to head to the gulf and swim in the ocean for a while, which proved quite entertaining. We saw a dead jellyfish on shore, and got sufficient opportunity to poke it without fear of repricushions. Then as we swam out, we started to see jumping fish, more accureatly fish that can't swim properly BELOW the waves. So instead of swimming down when theres a wave, they go through it and end up airborne. This also proved to be a good time for me to hear some more details about Danny and Sarah's wedding plans for next year. We basically swam and chatted until the sun went down, at which point we hopped back in the car, and came right back to the apartment complex's pool (to wash off the salt water). Because the mosquitos were flocking around us like we were Pigpen from Peanuts, we promptly headed for the inside and played cards until the weee hours of the morning.
I will now retire from my writings and musings until next time,
