Back to the madness and mayhem!
Entry 14 of 22 | show all | print this entry |
Flew back to Bangkok in the early hours of 9 August and checked into D&D Inn - nice hotel with swimming pool etc! Got chatting to a lady who works at the pool bar on 10th and she said she would take me out that night for my birthday - I wasn't sure whether or not she was serious, but decided to get myself ready to go out just in case! Sure enough she called me at the hotel and I met up with her just after 8pm. We went to a bar on the Khao San for a few drinks and her friend came along to meet us, then she was meeting another friend just as we were leaving - this 'friend' turned out to be her husband (but then again her English is heaps better than my Thai!) we then went to a bar (that's a petrol station by day!) and ended up in a local bar down some random alley way!! It was such a fantastic night and a great way to start my birthday, they walked me back to the hotel around 3:30am. I woke up at 11:30am and had the worst ever hangover - as I don't usually suffer from them, it was all very difficult!
Becky flew into Bangkok in the afternoon and after a quick shower and change I went for a massage (yep, can't get enough of 'em!) then we hit the town again (no, I never learn!). I took Becky back to the local bar and we had a blast - quite a cheap and friendly place! We then went back to the Khao San when we got kicked out at some point in the early hours then hit another bar for more alcohol. We got back to the hotel around 5am and decided we both fancied a swim in the pool (I've laughed about this all day today) we got changed, put towels on and the two of us tried to sneak into the pool - there was a security guard by the pool who was having none of it! There we were saying 'it's my birthday', finally admitting defeat we went back to the room.
Today was a bit of a wash out (by lunchtime we both had to go back to the room for a sleep!) it's also the Queen of Thailand's birthday so apparently all the attractions were closed so we rode around in a tuk tuk for a while then went shopping. Finally we went to the Sanam Luang park for the fireworks in celebrations of the queen's birthday - it was a truly crazy carnival atmosphere.
We're off to Chiang Mai tomorrow, so have an early start - we still need to do our sightseeing!!! - and as it's 2am here, i'll be in touch soon!
Thank you all so much for the text messages and emails yesterday - really made my day. I'm now using a Thai sim card but have no idea what the number is yet!!!
Last but not least - Sara, Shama, Nina and Lesley for the birthday cards (via Beckster) they really made my day!!! :)
