David met me at the bus stop and we joined the other guys by the river just in time for some lunch (and wine, beer and whisky (gracias Oscar ;) ) before the journey by truck to the start of the travesia. I think the trip was about 30km over the 2 days though it didn't feel too long as we had several stops along the way, not least because the river level was quite low so we had to lift our canoes over the rocks in places... It's done wonders for my weak arms! The water was warm enough to swim in too, well needed as it was pretty hot!
We had great weather and the weekend was so much fun; all the guys were very welcoming and it goes down as one of the best experiences so far during my time in SA..
The organisation was fantastic - we camped by the river on the Saturday night, and a huge asado awaited us as well as DJs, a live band, lights, tables and chairs - even portaloos! No showers but even I could put up with that for one night! Oh yes and plenty of booze, including more whisky...
The booze helped when I was dancing on the stony ground, sometimes in my flip flops, sometimes without. Not sure which was less painful! Danced for hours, it was so great!
On the Sunday once back in Dolores, we had another asado followed by presentations - I was given a t-shirt, hat, keyring, club flag and a fibreglass painted paddle (what a great souvenir)! I tried to give a thank you speech in Spanish but words failed me without any preparation... The paddle is being looked after by David until the end of my trip around SA...
An unforgettable weekend, thanks guys... Pictures speak louder than words so enjoy...
