Prague: An Enchanting City

The next day we decided to go to the Natural History Museum in Prague. The museum was right down the street from where we were staying. It was very ornately decorated inside and even though most of the exhibits where in Czech we found it interesting to wander around and take in the exhibits. The strangest exhibit had a giant foot as its entrance. This one was in English and I still didn't get it. We then decided to go on a tour of the city to find our bearings and also enable us to see most of the things we came to Prague to see. We arrived at the clock tower to find our tour and there was a wedding procession. We watched the wedding and the clock chime then headed over to catch our tour.

On the first part of the tour we took a cable car up to Prague Castle. The castle was very ornately decorated and was the largest I've seen yet. We where allowed inside one of the cathedrals within the castle, St. Vitus Cathedral. The entrance to the cathedral is a mosaic made of glass and is stunning to look at. The cathedral inside was beautiful. Its most lavishly decorated rooms still had wall paintings from the medieval period. We also look at St. Georges Basilica which is known for its healing powers. We walked around The Old Royal Palace and even got to see where the president of the Czech Republic currently resides. Once exiting Prague castle one gets a magnificent view of all of Lesser Town in Prague.

The tour then proceeded to walk down the streets of Lesser Town, one of the more expensive areas in Prague. We then walked across Charles Bridge taking in the view of the city. On the bridge we saw the statue of St. John Nepomucene who wad killed by King Wenceslas IV for he would not reveal the Queens confessions. The King killed John Nepomucene by dragging him through the streets of Prague with a brick of wood in his mouth then finally throwing him into the river Vltava which the bridge lies above. We continued walking through the streets of Prague and headed to the Old Jewish Ghetto to view the synagogues. We ended our tour at the clock tower at around 6:30pm it had been quite a walk and a big day for us three young travelers.

We had not eaten much all day, but we had already made some extravagant dinner plans for that night. We had booked ahead at an authentic medieval restaurant for three hours of all you can eat food and entertainment. We had such a great time there. We at meat and potatoes by candlelight and enjoyed the entertainment. It was kind of a taste and spit out if you don't like deal because none of the food was labeled. They had a live medieval band and every sort of medieval entertainment I could have imagined. Belly-dancers, gypsies, pirates, flame throwers, snake charmers, you name it and it was probably there. After a dinner that lasted till about 10pm we headed back to the hostel exhausted after our long day and enchanted by the beauty and hospitality of Prague.
